Special General Meeting

Voting is available for anyone aged over 16 and must be made in person. No proxy votes will be accepted.

Status quo as the history and tradition of the Whipman Play dictate that the Whipman chooses his Lass.

3 (a) In order to achieve the object as stated in paragraph 2 the Society will :
Annually select from the area, a man of outstanding repute to serve as Whipman; arrange for the proper installation of the Whipman as custom dictates, and on and about the date of the installation to organise such fancy dress competitions, sporting competitions, races, processions and other related activities, dances and entertainments as may be popularly supported and appropriate to the traditions of a period customarily known as “Whipman Week”.

Proposal is that the existing item 3(a) of the Constitution be deleted and replaced with :

In order to achieve the object as stated in paragraph 2 the Society will Annually select from the area a man of outstanding repute to serve as Whipman and will Annually select from the area a woman of outstanding repute to serve as Whipman Lass, the selection of both Whipman and Whipman Lass shall be by a vote of those of the Whipman Play Society who choose to vote; arrange for the proper installation of the Whipman and for the proper installation of the Whipman Lass and on and about the date of the installation to organise such fancy dress competitions, sporting competitions, races, processions and other related activities, dances and entertainments as may be popularly supported and appropriate during the period customarily known as ‘Whipman Week’.
