Whipman Play Programme 2017

Friday, 2 June

6 p.m. Floats gather on the Lower Green for judging at 6.30 p.m.

7 p.m. Installation Ceremony in the Marquee when the Whipman and Lass for 2017, Rob and Rebecca Norris will be installed.

7.30 p.m. The newly installed Whipman and Lass and Supporters will dance the Whipman Reel in front of the Marquee followed by the Procession led through the village by the newly installed Whipman, Rob Norris and his Lass, Rebecca Norris and the West Linton & District Pipe Band. St Ronan’s Silver Band will also join the Parade together with all stage party guests, Ex Whipman and Lasses, Visiting Principals and Fancy Dress Floats.

Saturday, 3 June

10.00 a.m. The Adult Ride out leaves Howieson Hall led again by West Linton & District Pipe Band.  The Ride will stop at Garvald for lunch and following the races will return to the village around 3.30/ 4 p.m.

10.30 a.m.  Children’s Fancy Dress on the Lower Green (Marquee if it is wet).

1 p.m.  Children’s Fun Afternoon on the Lower Green

Sunday, 4 June

10.30 a.m.  the Family Cycle Ride will leave from the Health Centre to Deepsyke Forest.

10.45 a.m.  The Whipman Party will parade through the village to St Andrew’s Church for the Whipman Service at 11.15 a.m. led again by the Pipe Band.

12.30 p.m.  Adult Five a Side Football Tournament at New Moor Road

Catering  –  Refreshments and Snacks

1.00 p.m.  Dog Show and Gun Dog Scurry on the Lower Green

Catering – Teas will be served in the Marquee throughout the afternoon

Monday, 5 June

All held on Lower Green except Netball

5.30 – 6.30 Kids Football (P1 – P4)

5.30 – 6.30 Cycle and Scooter events (P5 – S1 to age 14)

6.30 Junior Football (P5 – age 15)

Thursday, 8 June

3.45 p.m. Children’s Comedy Show in the Marquee

6 p.m.  Junior Rugby P 1 – P7 and

7 p.m. 5 a side Touch Rugby Session for S1 – 16 years on the Lower Green

Doors open 7 p.m. with the show starting a 7.30 p.m.  Charity Comedy Show in the Marquee

Saturday, 10 June

10.00 a.m.  7-a-side Hockey at West Linton Primary School    Boys and Girls (P6 – Age 15)

1 p.m. Procession through the village to the War Memorial when the 2017 Whipman will lay a wreath at approx. 1.20 p.m.   The British Legion will also be in attendance.   The Procession will be led by West Linton & District Pipe Band.

1.30 p.m.  Sports Day on the Lower Green

1.30 p.m.  –  Second Hand book sale in the Marquee organised by Socialize

Catering  –  1.30 p.m.  –  Teas in the Marquee throughout the afternoon

4.30 p.m.  Pentland Pantry (Home made Burgers) and Chip Van

6 p.m   Whipman Market in the Marquee  –  stalls, bar etc

7 p.m.  Junior and Adult Tug O’War on the Lower Green

8.15 p.m. Presentation of Trophies by the Whipman’s Lass and Presenting Lady

Draw for the Grand Raffle  –   tickets will be on sale during the week at all events.
